JBN.CO.ID ■ The National Amil Zakat Agency (Baznas) held a Welfare Index Study in order to measure the impact of zakat funds distribution to Mustahik. As a result, the Baznas distribution and utilization program has been proven to improve the welfare of mustahik in the material, spiritual, education, health, and independence fields.
This was stated by the Deputy Chairman of Baznas, Zainulbahar Noor in the Baznas Welfare Index Public Event held at Sofyan Hotel, Menteng, Thursday (10/17).
"This study and formulation is very important to measure the effectiveness of the distribution of zakat, but also to convey to the public, especially muzaki, on things that have been done by Baznas on the total zakat collected," said Zainul.
On the other hand, continued Zainul, this measure can tell that by utilizing zakat, poverty can be alleviated. However, these efforts are not as easy and illustrate poverty reduction nationally as the amount of zakat collected has only reached Rp8.1 trillion (end of 2018) or only 2.3% of the zakat potential of 230 million Indonesian Muslim residents.
"In addition, the income per capita of the Indonesian people compared to ASEAN countries and BRISK is only above Laos, Vietnam, the Philippines, and far below Singapore, Malaysia, Brazil, Russia," he added.
Zainul said, the results of this study became a mirror for Baznas to conduct a condition analysis while evaluating the distribution and utilization programs that had been carried out.
